In response to the comments received the following changes were made to the Master Plan proposals:

  • The review of economic benefits was reassessed to address the contrary views expressed by consultees on the benefits of Airport expansion.
  • The car park proposals were substantially revised and the Master Plan now proposes greater intensification of car parking on the north side of the Airport.
  • The proposals for managing the noise impact from aircraft were enhanced to reflect comments from consultees.
  • The final Master Plan was informed by a detailed Transport Assessment which has reconsidered the public transport strategy and the impact on the highway network of Airport growth. Proposals to mitigate the effect of traffic growth have been developed.
  • The impact of flights from BIA on greenhouse gas emissions was calculated and the Master Plan includes a detailed strategy for dealing with the effects of growth on climate change.
  • Throughout the document the Master Plan sets out our firm commitment to achieving sustainable growth of the airport.

The Master Plan was also submitted to North Somerset Council for their formal consideration. The consultation period on the Master Plan ran for six weeks until 22nd December 2006.

In January 2007, Council officers presented a report to the Planning and Regulatory Committee to consider whether the Master Plan could be supported and used to guide the preparation of subsequent planning applications. The Master Plan was noted by the Full Council on 20th February 2007. For details please visit www.n-somerset.gov.uk
