Home At the airport Sense of Place Biographies Ross Young

Ross Young

Ross was born in Perth, Scotland but following time at the Ministry of Defence as an aircraft engineer moved to the South in 1997, firstly living in Swindon, then moving to Bristol in 2000.

'A favourite pastime of mine is travelling, and I have visited many places, including - Peru, Thailand, New Zealand, and Egypt. It is whilst travelling that I gain inspiration for my paintings. I aim to capture a beach landscape or a desert terrain, something that reminds me of the place which I have visited. People often look at one of my paintings and see perhaps a calm sea, or maybe a clear sky. This is the beauty about painting abstracts; what you see is entirely dependent upon the person looking at it.'

Ross was commisioned to create a set of five images for the Check-in area of the airport and used arcylic paint on box canvases to produce the abstract artwork currently on display.

'I feel very honoured being asked to provide some of my artwork, and to be involved in such a large project. I only hope that my paintings are appreciated and succeed in adding colour and atmosphere to the new interior.'
